Who does your practice
need to hire?

Choose the recruitment service for your vacancy, from a general-practice associate to a specialist or multi-hospital leader.

For Sacramento veterinary employers

One region, many jurisdictions.
Specific hospital assignments.

A Midtown associate role, a Placer County specialist appointment and a Yolo County regional lead search need different briefs. Start with the hospital address, county, clinical resources and schedule, then agree the search with BEGHR.

Associate veterinarians

Specify independent procedures, appointment capacity and doctor overlap. If recruiting a new graduate, name the mentor and protect teaching time; California does not require continuing education at a first renewal and exempts UC Davis and Western University of Health Sciences graduates from its law examination.

Plan an associate search →

Specialist and emergency appointments

Define the discipline, required credentials, shift pattern and resources already available. Explain referral communication, overnight staffing and inpatient handover, and name the technicians who support the shift.

Scope a specialist role →

Medical and regional leadership

List the hospitals and decision authority. Separate clinical workload from protected time for coaching, clinical standards and team development, and name the licensee manager on each premises permit.

Define a medical director role →

Put the hospital address, county and site details in the brief.

Use the actual work address, the county and any additional facilities. Do not present a Lincoln or Placerville vacancy as interchangeable with a Midtown hospital. A rotating role should state which days belong to which site and whether movement between sites happens between working days or during a clinical shift.

Keep one clear decision process.

Choose the clinical and operational interviewers, confirm the employer-approved package and identify who can authorize an offer. Use the same role-related criteria for every candidate and give one person responsibility for feedback. Confirm the candidate’s California license status before a start date is set. Review the hiring brief and candidate scorecard before outreach.

Choose the service that matches the vacancy.

This is permanent placement for employers. Your practice hires the selected candidate directly. An immediate relief shift needs a separate arrangement; this service does not promise a locum available today. Job seekers can start with BEGHR’s veterinary placement page; the pricing form here is for employer inquiries.

Sacramento veterinary hiring context for employers

The California Veterinary Medical Board’s continuing education regulation requires a licensee renewing to certify at least 36 hours of approved continuing education, exempts a veterinarian’s first renewal and allows no more than 24 hours of credit from business practice management or stress seminars. The Board’s Veterinary Law Examination page says applicants who did not graduate from the University of California, Davis, or Western University of Health Sciences must complete an open-book, 32-question exam on the California Veterinary Medicine Practice Act within 40 days of submitting the license application, and its technician page lists the Veterinary Technician National Examination, a transfer request and one of four pathways for registered veterinary technicians. The Board’s licensee manager guidance says the veterinarian named on a premises permit must keep a reasonable physical presence at the facility, and its premises inspection page describes inspections of sanitation, practice management, practice techniques and record keeping. O*NET OnLine, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data, lists a median annual wage in the Sacramento-Roseville-Folsom area for veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants that is slightly above the California median and well above the national median. The UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine states that its Veterinary Medical Centers offer more than 60 new house officer training positions each year. The same state rules apply to every Sacramento employer, so confirm them before the Sacramento search starts.

  • Continuing education support: California asks for 36 hours at each renewal after the first and caps business and stress courses at 24 hours, so state the paid time and course costs the practice covers.
  • Licensing and start date: the Veterinary Law Examination applies to applicants who did not graduate from UC Davis or Western University of Health Sciences, so keep the start date separate from the license date.
  • Technician and assistant duties: list which team members hold a registered veterinary technician registration or a controlled substances permit and what each may do.
  • Premises responsibility: name the licensee manager for the hospital and how often that veterinarian is on site.
  • Hospital type: say whether the role sits in general practice, emergency or specialty referral, because Sacramento-area hospitals describe all three models on their own sites.

Market context is attributed to California Veterinary Medical Board continuing education regulations, California Veterinary Law Examination information, California Registered Veterinary Technician applicant information, California Veterinary Medical Board licensee manager responsibilities, California Veterinary Medical Board premises inspection program, California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substances Permit forms, UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine residency information, O*NET OnLine veterinarian wages by area, O*NET OnLine veterinary technician wages by area and O*NET OnLine veterinary assistant wages by area. These are third-party and state sources, not BEGHR claims.

Plan California credential checks before the start date.

Use the DCA License Search for the California Veterinary Medical Board for the relevant professional record. The Board’s license page describes the search, and each record shows whether a license is current, expired or subject to disciplinary action. Assign a person to verify status, record the date and resolve questions with the Board. Check any additional specialty credentials required by the employer with the issuing organization.

For a candidate moving from another state, review the California Veterinary Medical Board’s veterinarian applicant information. Applicants who did not graduate from UC Davis or Western University of Health Sciences must also complete the California Veterinary Law Examination, an open-book test on the California Veterinary Medicine Practice Act. Do not treat an out-of-state license or a preferred start date as confirmation that California requirements are satisfied. The Board determines eligibility and timing; BEGHR does not issue licenses.

If the role depends on technician delegation, confirm registered veterinary technician status through the same search. For related references, see the Board’s RVT registration requirements and the Board’s continuing education regulations and the Board’s licensee manager responsibilities and the O*NET California wage table for veterinarians, which reports BLS 2025 wage data.

Veterinary recruitment coverage

Sacramento and
surrounding communities.

A Sacramento veterinary search works best when the hospital address comes before the city label. Neighborhoods inside the City of Sacramento, unincorporated communities such as Arden-Arcade and Carmichael, suburban cities in Sacramento, Placer and El Dorado counties and the Yolo County cities of Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland are different workplaces under different local governments. Business Executive Group uses the employer’s role, schedule and location to scope a permanent search.

Name the street address, municipality and county, and keep City of Sacramento neighborhoods separate from suburban cities and unincorporated communities. The City of Sacramento’s 2040 General Plan divides the city into 10 community plan areas, and Sacramento County keeps separate unincorporated communities such as Arden-Arcade, Fair Oaks and Orangevale. Different animal control agencies serve the city, the unincorporated County and the suburban cities. Coverage on this site is limited to California; a hospital in Nevada, including Reno, falls under a different licensing authority.

Central and south Sacramento

Midtown, East Sacramento, Land Park and Pocket and Greenhaven are neighborhoods inside the City of Sacramento, which its 2040 General Plan divides into 10 community plan areas. These four sit in the Central City, East Sacramento, Greater Land Park and Pocket/Greenhaven plan areas. Give the street address and the plan area, and list any second site on its own line with its own days.

Natomas

South Natomas and North Natomas are separate community plan areas in the City of Sacramento’s 2040 General Plan, about eight and 15 square miles. The plan describes Interstate 80 as the southern edge of North Natomas and the western and northern edge of South Natomas. A Natomas address does not say which plan area applies, so state it and list any second site separately.

Sacramento County communities

Arden-Arcade, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Orangevale and North Highlands are census designated places in Sacramento County, not incorporated cities. The County lists Arden Arcade, Fair Oaks and Orangevale among the 15 Community Planning Advisory Councils it created for the unincorporated County, and the City’s General Plan says only about six of the 22 square miles of its Arden Arcade plan area lie inside city limits. State whether the hospital is inside the City of Sacramento or in the unincorporated County, because different animal control agencies serve each.

Cities in Sacramento County

Citrus Heights, Folsom, Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove are incorporated cities in Sacramento County. The City of Sacramento’s Animal Care page lists a separate animal services agency for each of them, with its own address. The hospital’s street address and city, not the word Sacramento, show which jurisdiction applies to the role.

Placer County

Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln and Auburn are incorporated cities in Placer County, and Granite Bay is a census designated place there. Roseville names the Placer SPCA as its contract shelter, Lincoln contracts with Placer County Animal Services in Auburn, and the Census lists North Auburn as a separate place from Auburn. Use the hospital’s street address and city, not a county label.

El Dorado County

El Dorado Hills is a census designated place and Placerville is an incorporated city, both in El Dorado County. The City of Sacramento’s Animal Care page lists El Dorado County Animal Services in Diamond Springs as a separate agency. El Dorado Hills covers about 48 square miles of land in the Census Gazetteer, so the address matters more than the name.

Yolo County

Davis, West Sacramento and Woodland are incorporated cities in Yolo County, across the county line from the City of Sacramento. Yolo County Animal Services in Woodland is listed as a separate agency, and the University of California, Davis campus is its own census designated place. A campus address belongs in the brief separately from a city address.

Employer questions

Veterinary recruiting questions

Which veterinary positions can Sacramento employers recruit through BEGHR?

The service covers permanent associate veterinarians, veterinary specialists, emergency DVMs, surgery appointments, medical directors and regional veterinary leaders. Search fit depends on the role, clinical requirements and employer brief. The practice makes the final hiring decision.

Is this for employers hiring veterinarians or for job applications?

This website is for practice owners and employer hiring teams seeking permanent veterinary staff. Its form requests a hiring brief and returns a placement estimate after employer opt-in. It is not an open-jobs directory or a candidate application form.

How does milestone billing work?

Agree the role, estimated fee range, billable milestones and payment terms before the search begins. Recruiting uses an hourly, pay-as-you-go model within the agreed range. BEGHR’s published placement process starts billing after applicants are sent. Invoices follow the agreed cadence, at least monthly during billable service delivery. BEGHR handles client billing and account questions.

Do we pay if a search does not result in a hire?

Milestone billing pays for agreed work as the search progresses, so completed billable milestones may still be payable without a placement. Your client agreement specifies the billing triggers, amounts, due dates and any cancellation terms.

Where can we see our placement price?

Select your role, complete the hiring questions and submit your employer contact details through the pricing form to receive an estimated fee range. BEGHR confirms the role classification, final fee and payment milestones before you engage the service.

How long does placement take?

BEGHR’s placement timeframe is 23–55 days. Timing depends on the role, candidate availability and the employer’s hiring process.

How does BEGHR pricing compare with contingency recruiting?

BEGHR offers placement at typically 50% less than contingency recruiting and 50% off second and subsequent hires for the same role. Use the pricing form for an estimate and confirm your fee and repeat-hire eligibility before starting.

What fill rate does BEGHR report?

BEGHR reports 86% fill rate on active searches across its placement service. This provider-wide figure is not a city-specific or veterinary-only result and does not guarantee an individual hiring outcome.

Who receives my employer inquiry?

Business Executive Group receives your contact information, selected roles, qualification answers, placement estimate and the originating website and page through its existing BEGHR lead intake. This is an employer inquiry, not a candidate job application.

How are placement fees confirmed?

The instant-pricing form uses BEGHR’s role categories and current retail ranges to show an estimate after you submit your employer details. The provider confirms the actual category, scope, payment milestones and commercial terms before a search engagement begins.
